Chocolate Chip Starfish - Protoreaster nodosus
Chocolate Chip Starfish are among the most sought-after starfish species. They thrive better in FOWLR (Fish Only With Live Rock) aquariums rather than reef tanks. These starfish are named for their tan-brown bodies adorned with dark, chocolate chip-like protrusions. Reaching up to 12 inches in size, they require a minimum tank size of 15 gallons. Known for their peaceful nature, Chocolate Chip Starfish coexist well with non-aggressive tank mates. However, they should be kept away from predatory fish like Triggers and Puffers, which may prey on them. Not suitable for reef tanks, these starfish consume various invertebrates, clams, and corals. As carnivores, they thrive on a diet rich in meaty foods, often scavenging leftover food in the tank. Supplement their diet with mysis shrimp or small seafood pieces like clam and shrimp.
