Stone Fish are stunning and truly unique fish. Stone Fish are found in various hues of reds including pinks and purples. Stone Fish have bodies that resemble algae covered rocks to fool would be meals to swim close to them.
Stone Fish reach a maximum adult size of around 14 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 150 gallons in size. Stone Fish are aggressive fish and will eat any fish that they can fit into their mouths. For this reason, Stone Fish are terrible fish to add into your reef tank.
Stone Fish need to be kept in tanks with lots of live rock and sand so they can feel comfortable and find good hiding spots in the tank. Stone Fish can inflict a serious sting from its venomous spine. If you are stung by a Stone Fish you should get medical attention as soon as possible, especially if you have bad allergies.
Stone Fish are carnivores and require a diet that is rich in meaty foods. Being ambush predators, Stone Fish like to catch their own food. Feeder shrimp and fish should get your Stone Fish accustomed to eating in your tank. Over time you can use prepared foods like chunks of fresh seafood to feed your Stone Fish.
