Scribbled Rabbitfish - Siganus doliatus
The Scribbled Rabbitfish is a visually striking and lively species. It features a predominantly white body with two prominent diagonal black stripes across its eyes and behind its head. The back, dorsal fin, and tail are mostly yellow, while the face displays brilliant blue markings and spots.
Reaching up to 10 inches in length, the Scribbled Rabbitfish requires a minimum tank size of 75 gallons. Known for their peaceful nature, they generally coexist well with other fish, corals, and invertebrates. However, they may occasionally nip at softer coral tissues, so caution is advised when adding them to a reef tank.
These fish thrive in pairs but may show aggression towards other rabbitfish in smaller tanks. They do well in environments with plenty of established live rock, which they use to graze on algae. Some individuals even consume nuisance algae. Be cautious when handling them, as they possess venomous spines.
As herbivores, Scribbled Rabbitfish need a diet rich in greens. Foods like nori, marine algae sheets, spirulina, and high-quality frozen, flake, and pellet foods will keep them healthy and content.
