The Dogface Puffer, scientifically known as Arothron nigropunctatus, is a captivating marine species. This pufferfish is predominantly white with distinctive brown and black spots. Although rare in captivity, it can change colors during its life stages.
Reaching up to 13 inches in length, the Dogface Puffer requires a minimum tank size of 90 gallons. Known for its semi-aggressive nature, it generally coexists peacefully with other fish and even other puffers.
Not suitable for reef aquariums, the Dogface Puffer will consume any invertebrates it encounters. Its beak-like teeth and ability to inflate when threatened make it unique. Avoid using nets to move them, as this can cause stress and inflation. Never provoke inflation for entertainment, as it is harmful to the fish.
As a carnivore, the Dogface Puffer thrives on a diet rich in meaty foods. Offer a variety of seafood such as clams, krill, squid, shrimp, and fish to maintain its health and happiness.
