Sally Lightfoot Crab (Percnon gibbesi)
The Sally Lightfoot Crab is a vibrant and fascinating marine creature. These crabs display a predominantly tan body adorned with striking brown and orange patterns. They can grow up to 3 inches in size and require a minimum tank size of 40 gallons. While they are generally semi-aggressive, they typically coexist peacefully with other fish, corals, and invertebrates when they are small. However, as they mature, they may pose a threat to smaller fish and invertebrates, so exercise caution when adding a Sally Lightfoot Crab to your reef aquarium.
These crabs thrive in environments with ample live rock, providing them with hiding spots during daylight hours. Primarily nocturnal, the Sally Lightfoot Crab actively scavenges for leftover food and detritus at night, making it an excellent addition to your tank's cleanup crew. As omnivores, they obtain most of their nutrition through scavenging, but you can supplement their diet with mysis and brine shrimp, high-quality frozen foods, and premium flake and pellet foods.
