Reaching up to 9 inches in length, Vagabond Butterflyfish require a minimum tank size of 90 gallons. They exhibit semi-aggressive behavior but generally coexist peacefully with other tank inhabitants. However, they may nibble on invertebrates and corals, making them unsuitable for reef aquariums.
In larger tanks, Vagabond Butterflyfish can be housed together, though they may show aggression towards other butterflyfish in smaller environments. These fish add vibrant color and activity to medium to large fish-only tanks and can be kept with most fish, except the largest and most aggressive species. They thrive in tanks with ample live rock, where they can hide and graze on small invertebrates and anemones between meals.
As carnivores, Vagabond Butterflyfish require a diet rich in meaty foods. Offer them mysis and brine shrimp, high-quality frozen foods, small pieces of fresh seafood, and premium flake and pellet foods to ensure their health and happiness.
