Speckled Butterflyfish - Chaetodon citrinellus
The Speckled Butterflyfish is a captivating and distinctive species. It features a predominantly white body, a yellow tail, and a prominent black stripe across its eye. The body is adorned with purple, blue, and yellow speckles.
Reaching up to 6 inches in size, the Speckled Butterflyfish requires a minimum tank size of 120 gallons. These peaceful fish coexist well with other non-aggressive species but are not suitable for reef tanks due to their tendency to consume hard and soft corals and anemones.
Ideal tank mates for the Speckled Butterflyfish include other peaceful to semi-aggressive fish. Avoid housing them with overly aggressive species, as this can cause stress. A tank with ample live rock is beneficial, as they enjoy foraging for small invertebrates and will seek refuge among the rocks when threatened.
As omnivores, Speckled Butterflyfish thrive on a diet rich in meaty foods. Offer them mysis and brine shrimp, high-quality frozen foods, nori, marine algae sheets, and premium flake and pellet foods to ensure their health and happiness.
