The Golden Butterflyfish is a captivating species, predominantly yellow with gold accents and a distinctive black eye spot. These fish can grow up to 9 inches and require a minimum tank size of 90 gallons. Known for their peaceful nature, Golden Butterflyfish generally coexist well with other fish, though they may show aggression towards other butterflyfish in smaller tanks. In larger aquariums, they tend to be more harmonious. Exercise caution when adding them to reef tanks, as they may consume small shrimp and nibble on clams and corals.
For optimal health, Golden Butterflyfish thrive in tanks with ample live rock and refugiums, where they can forage for small invertebrates. As omnivores, their diet should include both meaty and plant-based foods. Offer a variety of mysis and brine shrimp, high-quality flakes, pellets, and frozen foods. If they struggle to eat initially, live foods may encourage feeding.
