The Declivis Butterflyfish is a breathtaking and exceptionally rare species of smaller butterflyfish. These fish feature a predominantly white body accented with yellow fins and distinctive black markings, along with a yellow stripe across their eyes.
Declivis Butterflyfish can grow up to 5 inches in length and are suitable for aquariums as small as 90 gallons. Known for their peaceful nature, they generally coexist well with other fish and invertebrates. In their natural habitat, they feed on coral polyps, feather dusters, and anemones, making them unsuitable for reef aquariums. However, in fish-only tanks with peaceful to semi-aggressive species, they add a vibrant splash of color.
Found exclusively around Christmas Island, Declivis Butterflyfish are similar to the Black Tang in terms of rarity and cost due to their remote habitat. They thrive in tanks with ample hiding spots, as they are shy and require a secure environment.
As omnivores, Declivis Butterflyfish need a diet rich in both plant and animal matter. Feeding them nori, marine algae sheets, high-quality flake foods, mysis, and brine shrimp will ensure their health and happiness.
