The Blue Blotch Butterfly is a breathtakingly vibrant butterflyfish. These fish feature a predominantly yellow body, accented with a bold black stripe across their eyes and a black spot near their tails. A large blue spot also adorns their body.
Blue Blotch Butterflyfish can grow up to 6 inches and require a minimum tank size of 90 gallons. They are peaceful and generally do not disturb other fish or invertebrates. However, they tend to nip at both soft and hard corals, making them unsuitable for reef aquariums.
Ideal for larger fish-only tanks with live rock, Blue Blotch Butterflies add a splash of color to any setup. These shy and peaceful fish need plenty of hiding spots. Live rock provides excellent hiding places and allows them to graze on small invertebrates between meals. Avoid housing them with large, aggressive fish.
As carnivores, Blue Blotch Butterflies thrive on a diet rich in meaty foods. Offer them mysis and brine shrimp, high-quality frozen foods, small pieces of fresh seafood, and premium pellet and flake foods. Initially, they may need live feeder foods to adapt to tank life.
