The Squareback Anthias is a stunning and vibrant fish species. Males and females exhibit distinct color differences, with females being a solid orange and males appearing more red. Some Squareback Anthias may display a square pattern on their sides.
These fish can grow up to 4 inches and require a minimum tank size of 55 gallons. They are semi-aggressive and may show aggression towards other anthias, but they generally coexist peacefully with other fish, corals, and invertebrates, making them ideal for reef aquariums.
It's best to keep Squareback Anthias in small groups, either with one male and several females or all females. In the absence of a male, the dominant female will transform into a male. Multiple males in the same tank may become aggressive. These fish are native to deeper waters, so providing ample live rock for shelter from bright tank lights is essential.
As carnivores, Squareback Anthias thrive on a diet rich in meaty foods. Feeding them mysis and brine shrimp, high-quality frozen foods, and premium flake and pellet foods twice daily will ensure their health and vitality.
