The Red Saddled Anthias is a captivating and rare species of anthias. These fish feature a sleek white body adorned with distinctive red saddle-like patterns along their back, which is how they got their name.
Reaching up to 4 inches in length, Red Saddled Anthias require a minimum tank size of 55 gallons. They thrive in small groups, either all females or with one male. Multiple males tend to be aggressive towards each other. In the absence of a male, the dominant female will transform into a male.
These peaceful fish coexist well with other marine life, including invertebrates and corals, making them ideal for reef aquariums. As deep-water dwellers, they prefer dim lighting and cooler temperatures. Providing them with live rock for shade will enhance their well-being.
Being carnivorous, Red Saddled Anthias require a diet rich in meaty foods like mysis and brine shrimp, along with high-quality frozen, flake, and pellet foods. They may initially be reluctant to eat, so live feeder foods can help them adjust to aquarium life. An established tank with plenty of pods is also beneficial.
