The Six Bar Angelfish is a captivating and sizable marine species from the Indo-Pacific region, reaching up to 18 inches in length. This angelfish can be a remarkable addition to any aquarium setup.
The Six Bar Angelfish features a light white body adorned with six prominent black vertical bands. Its face is a deep black, often highlighted with blue accents. Given its potential size of 18 inches, it's recommended to house this angelfish in a tank no smaller than 220 gallons. In smaller tanks, it's best to keep only one angelfish to prevent aggression among similar species.
Generally, the Six Bar Angelfish is not ideal for reef aquariums as it tends to nibble on both hard and soft corals, as well as some invertebrates like clams. While some have successfully kept them in reef tanks, it largely depends on the individual fish's temperament.
Feeding the Six Bar Angelfish a diet rich in algae, mysis shrimp, and Spirulina is essential since they are omnivorous. Having plenty of established rock in the tank can help between feedings, allowing the angelfish to graze on algae. The rock also offers hiding spots if the fish gets startled.
