The Blue Angel is a captivating and sizable angelfish species. As it grows, the Blue Angel undergoes a color transformation, making it a stunning addition to a large fish-only aquarium.
Juvenile Blue Angels display a yellow body with prominent white and blue vertical stripes. As they mature, their bodies turn primarily black with yellow-tipped fins and streamers. Fully grown, they can reach up to 18 inches, necessitating a tank of at least 100 gallons for optimal health.
While Blue Angels can be aggressive towards other angelfish, they generally coexist peacefully with other fish species. However, they may nip at corals and clams, so they are not ideal for full reef tanks. Some have successfully kept them in reef environments, but it largely depends on the individual fish's temperament.
These angelfish are omnivorous, requiring a diet rich in both plant and animal matter. Foods like Spirulina, Nori, marine algae, high-quality pellets, flakes, and mysis shrimp will support their growth and well-being.
