Twin Spot Wrasse Juvenile - Coris aygula
The Twin Spot Wrasse is a dynamic and sizable wrasse species. Initially, these fish are white with black spots and two prominent eye spots on their dorsal fin, accompanied by orange markings beneath. As they mature, their color shifts to green and eventually black.
Reaching up to 24 inches in length, Twin Spot Wrasses require a minimum tank size of 240 gallons. Known for their aggressive nature, they are not suitable for tanks with smaller, peaceful fish, posing a risk in reef tanks with such inhabitants. These wrasses are adept jumpers, necessitating a tank with a secure lid to prevent escape.
They thrive in small groups, ideally with only females or one male among females, as males exhibit aggression towards each other. A habitat with ample live rock and a deep sand bed is crucial for their well-being, allowing them to forage and burrow at night, reducing stress and illness.
As carnivores, Twin Spot Wrasses require a diet rich in meaty foods. Juveniles can be fed mysis and brine shrimp, along with high-quality frozen meaty foods. As they grow, their diet should include small pieces of fresh seafood.
