The Longjaw Wrasse is a vibrant and colorful larger wrasse. Longjaw Wrasses have a mostly red body with various white markings on it. Longjaw Wrasses also have the ability to extend out their mouths far from their bodies.

Longjaw Wrasses reach a fully grown adult size of around 7 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 125 gallons. Longjaw Wrasses are semi-aggressive fish and will bother smaller fish and inverts. For this reason you need to proceed with caution if adding a Longjaw Wrasse to a reef tanks. Longjaw Wrasses will also be territorial to other wrasses as well.

Longjaw Wrasses are strong jumpers and should only be kept in tanks with tight fitting lids with no holes large enough for them to jump through if spooked. There also needs to be plenty of live rock in a tank housing Longjaw Wrasses. The rock will provide them shelter if they feel threatened and also be the home for some inverts that the Longjaw Wrasse can eat between feedings.

Longjaw Wrasses are carnivores and require a diet rich in meaty foods. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp, high quality meaty frozen foods and small pieces of fresh seafood will keep your Longjaw Wrasse healthy and happy.
