Formosa Wrasse (Coris formosa)
The Formosa Wrasse is a large, dynamic species of wrasse. These fish undergo a significant transformation from their juvenile to adult stages. Young Formosa Wrasses display a predominantly orange body with distinct vertical white stripes. As they mature, their bodies darken, featuring various black spots, a yellow head, and a prominent white stripe.
Reaching up to 24 inches in length, Formosa Wrasses require a minimum tank size of 180 gallons. Known for their aggressive nature, they are not suitable for tanks with smaller, peaceful fish. It's advisable to introduce them as one of the last additions to your aquarium due to their territorial behavior. Consequently, they are not ideal for reef tanks but thrive in large, fish-only setups with other semi-aggressive to aggressive species.
These wrasses are adept jumpers, necessitating a tank with a secure lid to prevent escape. They are also known to rearrange rocks in search of food. As carnivores, their diet should be rich in meaty foods, including mysis and brine shrimp, high-quality frozen foods, flake and pellet foods, and fresh seafood chunks to ensure their health and vitality.
