The Eight Lined Wrasse is an energetic and beneficial fish species. These wrasses display a predominantly whitish-pink body adorned with eight prominent red vertical lines, which is how they got their name.
Eight Lined Wrasses can grow up to 5 inches in length and require a minimum tank size of 55 gallons. Although they are aggressive, they can coexist in reef aquariums. They do not harm corals but may attack certain invertebrates and similar wrasse species. Known for their jumping ability, they should be housed in tanks with secure lids to prevent escape.
These wrasses thrive in pairs or small groups, consisting of all females or one male with several females. Male Eight Lined Wrasses tend to be aggressive towards each other. Their tanks should have ample live rock and sand, as they spend their days foraging for small invertebrates and hiding when threatened. At night, they burrow into the sand, and a lack of a sand bed can cause them stress.
As carnivores, Eight Lined Wrasses need a diet rich in meaty foods. Feeding them mysis and brine shrimp, high-quality frozen foods, and premium flake and pellet foods will ensure their health and happiness.
