The Dragon Wrasse is a fascinating and distinctive member of the wrasse family. These fish undergo a remarkable transformation from their juvenile phase to adulthood. Young Dragon Wrasses sport two prominent fins on their heads that resemble horns. As they mature, they lose their green hue and these "horns," adopting a more brownish color.

Reaching up to 12 inches in length, Dragon Wrasses require a minimum tank size of 125 gallons. While juveniles can thrive in reef aquariums, they become more aggressive as they grow, preying on smaller fish and invertebrates, making them unsuitable for reef environments. Known for rearranging rocks and displacing coral, they are best suited for large FOWLR tanks with similarly aggressive companions.

These fish need a secure lid on their tanks to prevent jumping when startled. A tank with ample live rock and a deep sand bed is essential, as Dragon Wrasses like to hide among rocks and burrow in the sand when anxious.

As carnivores, Dragon Wrasses thrive on a diet rich in meaty foods. Offer them mysis and brine shrimp, high-quality frozen meats, and chunks of seafood like shrimp, clams, fish, and scallops to ensure their health and vitality.
