Disappearing Wrasse - Pseudocheilius evanidus
The Disappearing Wrasse is a vibrant and lively fish, showcasing a predominantly red and orange body adorned with numerous thin horizontal stripes. A distinctive blue line runs along its dorsal fin. These wrasses grow up to 3 inches and require a minimum tank size of 29 gallons. Known for their jumping ability, they need a securely covered tank to prevent escape. While semi-aggressive, they generally coexist well with other fish but may occasionally bother similar species in smaller tanks. They are reef-safe, leaving invertebrates and corals undisturbed.
In larger tanks, groups of all females or one male with several Disappearing Wrasses can be kept, but multiple males may exhibit aggression. They thrive in environments with ample live rock and sand, which they use for foraging and hiding. At night, they burrow into the sand, and the absence of sand can lead to stress and health issues. As carnivores, their diet should include meaty foods like mysis and brine shrimp, along with high-quality frozen, flake, and pellet foods.
