The Blue Flasher Wrasse is a stunning and lively fish, known for its elongated dorsal fins and predominantly red coloration. Males exhibit vibrant electric blue shades on their upper bodies, especially during courtship, which is how they earned their "flasher" name.
These wrasses grow up to 3 inches and require a minimum tank size of 55 gallons. They are adept jumpers, so a secure lid is essential to prevent them from leaping out when startled. As peaceful creatures, Blue Flasher Wrasses coexist well with other fish, corals, and invertebrates, making them ideal for reef aquariums.
They thrive in pairs or small groups, with groups consisting of all females or one male with several females, as males can be aggressive towards each other. In the absence of a male, the dominant female will transform into a male. A tank with ample live rock is necessary for them to hide and rest.
Being carnivorous, Blue Flasher Wrasses require a diet rich in meaty foods such as mysis and brine shrimp, along with high-quality frozen, flake, and pellet foods to maintain their health and vitality.
