Bicolor Cleaner Wrasse - Labroides bicolor
The Bicolor Cleaner Wrasse is a very colorful and useful wrasse. Bicolor Cleaner Wrasses have a mostly black body with strong yellow horizontal stripes.
Bicolor Cleaner Wrasses reach a maximum adult size of around 5 inches and need to be kept in a tank that is at least 55 gallons in size. Bicolor Cleaner Wrasses are peaceful fish and shouldn't bother other fish, coral or inverts in your tank. This makes Bicolor Cleaner Wrasses a great fish for reef tanks. Some fish might be annoyed by a Bicolor Cleaner Wrasse constantly trying to clean them though. Bicolor Cleaner Wrasses are strong jumpers and should be kept in tanks that have a tight fitting hood with no holes large enough for them to jump through if spooked.
In the ocean, the Bicolor Cleaner Wrasse will setup a cleaning station where other fish will come to get parasites and dead skin removed from their bodies. Bicolor Cleaner Wrasses will sometimes do this same behavior in captivity, but not always. Bicolor Cleaner Wrasses will also pick at your live rock for small inverts to eat as well. Bicolor Cleaner Wrasses should only be attempted by very advanced aquarists since they are hard to get adjusted to live in captivity. The small mouths of the Bicolor Cleaner Wrasse hinders it from eating larger foods.
Bicolor Cleaner Wrasses are carnivores and need to be feed a diet rich in meaty foods. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp as well as high quality meaty frozen foods should help your Bicolor Cleaner Wrasse stay healthy and active. We have also had luck offering nori sheets to Bicolor Cleaner Wrasses as well.
