The Sargassum Triggerfish is a visually striking and appealing species. These fish feature a predominantly gray body adorned with black spots and a distinctive red tail.

The Sargassum Triggerfish can grow up to 10 inches in length and require a minimum tank size of 125 gallons. Known for their semi-aggressive nature, they generally coexist peacefully with most fish, corals, and invertebrates. However, they may nip at smaller, more docile fish, especially during feeding. They might also consume some invertebrates, so caution is advised when adding them to a reef tank.

These fish are somewhat shy and benefit from ample live rock in the tank for hiding when threatened. As they grow, they may rearrange the rock to their liking. Despite their shyness, Sargassum Triggerfish are quite social and will often follow you as you move around the tank.

Being carnivorous, their diet should be rich in meaty foods. Smaller Sargassum Triggerfish thrive on mysis and brine shrimp, along with high-quality meaty frozen foods. As they mature, larger pieces of fresh seafood like clams, scallops, shrimp, and squid are ideal. Foods with hard shells help maintain their teeth.
