Lunula Trigger - Rhinecanthus lunula
The Lunula Trigger is an exceptionally rare and vibrant species of triggerfish. These fish feature a predominantly tan body with a white underside and a striking black stripe across their eyes. A distinctive yellow crescent shape near their tail gives them their nickname.
Reaching up to 10 inches in length, Lunula Triggers require a minimum tank size of 125 gallons. Known for their aggressive nature, they are not suitable for tanks with smaller, more peaceful fish or invertebrates. They are also known to rearrange rocks within the aquarium, making them unsuitable for reef tanks.
These fish thrive in larger, fish-only aquariums with other large, semi-aggressive to aggressive companions. They appreciate plenty of live rock for hiding when they feel threatened.
As carnivores, Lunula Triggers need a diet rich in meaty foods. Mysis and brine shrimp, along with high-quality meaty foods, will keep them healthy. As they mature, they require larger portions of fresh seafood like scallops, clams, squid, and shrimp. Foods with hard shells help maintain their teeth.
