Humu Rectangle Triggerfish - Rhinecanthus rectangulus
The Humu Rectangle Triggerfish, a captivating species from Hawaii, is also known as the state fish, Humuhumunukunukuapuaa. This fish features a predominantly white body adorned with striking orange and blue lines, along with a distinct black V pattern.
Reaching up to 12 inches in length, the Humu Rectangle Triggerfish requires a minimum tank size of 125 gallons. Known for their somewhat aggressive nature, they are not suitable for tanks with very small fish or certain invertebrates. They thrive best in large FOWLR tanks alongside other larger semi-aggressive species.
These fish prefer environments with abundant live rock, providing them with caves to retreat to when threatened. The Humu Rectangle Triggerfish is also known for producing audible grunting sounds that can be heard outside the tank.
As carnivores, they need a diet rich in meaty foods. Offering them mysis shrimp and high-quality fresh seafood like squid, clams, scallops, and shrimp will ensure they remain healthy and vibrant.
