Vlamingii Tang - Naso vlamingii
The Vlamingii Tang is a stunning and elegant species of surgeonfish. Young Vlamingii Tangs are darker with prominent blue spots, while adults become more gray with subtle blue patterns. These fish can grow up to 24 inches and require a minimum tank size of 240 gallons. They are active swimmers and thrive in long tanks that provide ample swimming space. Generally peaceful with other fish, corals, and invertebrates, the Vlamingii Tang can be aggressive towards other tangs. To minimize aggression, ensure a large tank and introduce tangs simultaneously. Providing constant access to algae can also help reduce aggression.
Vlamingii Tangs are prone to marine ich, so it's crucial to quarantine them before adding them to your main tank. Enhancing their diet with supplements like selcon and garlic can promote health and vitality. As herbivores, they need a diet rich in greens, including nori, algae sheets, spirulina, high-quality flakes, pellets, and mysis shrimp to stay healthy and content.
