Scopas Tang - Zebrasoma scopas
The Scopas Tang is a distinctive and less common type of surgeonfish. It features a dark brown to blackish body adorned with light spots. This fish is a cost-effective alternative to the pricier Black Tang.
Growing up to 12 inches, Scopas Tangs require a minimum aquarium size of 75 gallons. They are generally peaceful and compatible with most fish, corals, and invertebrates, making them ideal for reef aquariums.
Challenges with Scopas Tangs arise when housed with other tangs, particularly other Zebrasoma species. Multiple tangs in one tank can lead to aggression, so it's best to introduce them simultaneously in a large tank.
These tangs are relatively hardy compared to other species. It's beneficial to add supplements like selcon and garlic to their diet to boost their immune system. Providing ample live rock is also recommended, as it offers plenty of algae for grazing.
As herbivores, Scopas Tangs thrive on a diet rich in greens. Foods such as nori, algae sheets, high-quality pellets, flake foods, and mysis shrimp will keep them healthy.
