The Orange Stripe Bristletooth Tang is a vibrant and eye-catching species of surgeonfish. As juveniles, these tangs display a predominantly blue body adorned with striking horizontal orange stripes. Upon reaching adulthood, the Orange Stripe Bristletooth Tang transitions to a more subdued tan hue, losing much of its initial blue and orange vibrancy.
These tangs can grow up to 10 inches and require a minimum tank size of 125 gallons. Known for their semi-aggressive nature, Orange Stripe Bristletooth Tangs generally coexist peacefully with other fish, corals, and invertebrates, making them a suitable choice for reef aquariums.
While they may show aggression towards other tangs, especially those within the Ctenochaetus family, introducing them simultaneously and providing ample algae can help mitigate conflicts. As strong swimmers, Orange Stripe Bristletooth Tangs thrive in tanks with plenty of open space, with longer tanks being ideal.
As herbivores, their diet should be rich in greens, including marine algae, nori sheets, high-quality flakes and pellets, spirulina, and frozen foods like mysis and brine shrimp. These tangs are also excellent at controlling algae, even consuming some nuisance varieties.
