Naso Tang - Naso lituratus
The Naso Tang is a striking and elegant species among tangs. As they age, their gray bodies darken, and they develop a distinctive black facial mask and long tail streamers. These fish can grow up to 18 inches, necessitating a minimum tank size of 180 gallons for ample swimming space. Although not the strongest swimmers compared to other tangs, they are generally reef-safe and peaceful. However, they may show aggression towards other tang species, so a large tank is recommended if housing multiple tangs. Introducing all tangs simultaneously can help minimize aggression.
Naso Tangs are herbivores, thriving on a diet rich in greens. Established live rock provides algae for grazing, and their diet can be supplemented with nori, algae sheets, high-quality flake and pellet foods, spirulina, and mysis shrimp. These fish are known to jump, so a secure tank lid is essential. They are also prone to diseases, making quarantine crucial before adding them to your tank. Enhancing their diet with garlic and selcon can boost their immune system.
