The Mimic Half Black Tang is a unique and striking surgeonfish. These fish display a predominantly black to light brown body adorned with eye-catching gold and yellow patterns.
Mimic Half Black Tangs can grow up to 10 inches and require a minimum tank size of 125 gallons. They are semi-aggressive but generally do not disturb other fish, corals, or invertebrates, making them ideal for reef aquariums. However, they may show aggression towards other tangs, especially those of the Acanthurus genus. To minimize conflicts, introduce all tangs simultaneously into a spacious tank. Providing a steady supply of algae can also help reduce aggression.
As strong swimmers, Mimic Half Black Tangs thrive in tanks with ample horizontal space and random strong water flow, mimicking their natural surge zone habitat. They also benefit from plenty of live rock to graze on between meals.
These herbivores need a diet rich in greens, including nori, marine algae sheets, spirulina, high-quality flakes and pellets, as well as frozen foods like mysis and brine shrimp, to maintain their health and vitality.
