Maculiceps Tang - Acanthurus maculiceps
The **Maculiceps Tang** is a distinctive and sizable surgeonfish, featuring a predominantly tan body adorned with yellowish-white patterns. These fish can grow up to 16 inches and require a minimum of a 125-gallon tank during their juvenile stage. Generally peaceful, **Maculiceps Tangs** coexist well with other fish, corals, and invertebrates, making them ideal for reef aquariums.
While **Maculiceps Tangs** are mostly peaceful, they can show aggression towards other tangs, particularly those within the Acanthurus family. To minimize this behavior, it's advisable to house them in the largest tank possible and introduce all tangs simultaneously. Providing algae sheets or ample live rock can also help reduce aggression. As strong swimmers, they benefit from a longer tank with plenty of swimming space.
Being herbivores, **Maculiceps Tangs** thrive on a diet rich in green foods. Nori, algae sheets, spirulina, high-quality flake and pellet foods, and mysis shrimp are excellent choices. Adding supplements like selcon and garlic can further enhance their health and vitality.
