Discover the captivating beauty of the Lieutenant Tang, scientifically known as Acanthurus tennenti. This surgeonfish boasts a tan body adorned with dark spots near its eyes and scalpel, complemented by striking electric blue accents on its fins.
Reaching up to 10 inches in length, the Lieutenant Tang thrives in aquariums of at least 75 gallons. These agile swimmers benefit from tanks with ample space for movement.
Generally peaceful, the Lieutenant Tang coexists well with most reef tank inhabitants, including fish, invertebrates, and corals. However, they may show aggression towards other tangs, particularly those in the Acanthurus family. To minimize conflicts, introduce tangs simultaneously or ensure a spacious tank environment.
As excellent algae consumers, Lieutenant Tangs flourish in tanks with established live rock, providing both grazing opportunities and hiding spots.
Being herbivores, Lieutenant Tangs require a diet rich in greens. Offer them nori, algae sheets, spirulina, high-quality flakes, pellets, and mysis shrimp for optimal growth and health.
