The Dussumier Tang is a highly prized and admired species among surgeonfish enthusiasts. These fish exhibit varying appearances based on their age and mood, ranging from nearly full brown with blue accents to a light tan adorned with vibrant orange and blue patterns. Regardless of their coloration, the Dussumier Tang is a captivating addition to any aquarium.
Reaching up to 20 inches in length, Dussumier Tangs require a minimum tank size of 350 gallons. They are generally peaceful and coexist well with other fish, corals, and invertebrates, making them an excellent choice for reef tanks. However, they may show aggression towards other tangs, particularly those of the Acanthurus genus. To minimize conflicts, introduce tangs simultaneously and ensure a constant supply of algae for grazing.
These tangs thrive in environments with ample horizontal swimming space and plenty of live rock for algae grazing and hiding. As herbivores, their diet should be rich in greens, including nori, marine algae sheets, high-quality flakes, pellets, and frozen foods like mysis and brine shrimp, to maintain their health and vitality.
