Sailfin Tang - Desjardini (Zebrasoma desjardini)

The Desjardini Sailfin Tang is a striking and sizable species of tang. It shares similarities with the Sailfin Tang but is notably more vibrant. These tangs feature a predominantly white body adorned with bold black vertical stripes and numerous yellowish-orange spots. Younger Desjardini Sailfin Tangs often display a more yellow hue.

Reaching up to 16 inches in adulthood, Desjardini Sailfin Tangs require a minimum tank size of 50 gallons. They are particularly tall, especially when their fins are fully extended. Generally peaceful, they coexist well with other fish, corals, and invertebrates, though they may show aggression towards other tangs, particularly those of the Zebrasoma genus.

To minimize aggression, it's advisable to introduce multiple tangs simultaneously and house them in the largest tank possible. These tangs are active swimmers and need ample open space. Providing plenty of live rock with algae can help reduce competition for food, thus decreasing aggression.

As herbivores, Desjardini Sailfin Tangs thrive on a diet rich in greens. Offering nori, marine algae sheets, high-quality flakes, pellets, and mysis or brine shrimp will keep them healthy and thriving.
