Chocolate Tang - Acanthurus pyroferus
The **Chocolate Tang** is a fascinating and distinctive surgeonfish. Initially, these fish are predominantly yellow with a blue eye, often referred to as Mimic Lemon Peel Tangs. As they grow, they lose their yellow hue and develop into brown fish with gray and yellow accents.
**Chocolate Tangs** can grow up to 8 inches and require a minimum tank size of 90 gallons. They thrive in environments with ample horizontal swimming space. These peaceful fish are ideal for reef tanks as they do not disturb other fish, corals, or invertebrates.
While **Chocolate Tangs** are generally peaceful, they may show aggression towards other tangs, especially those of the Acanthurus species. To minimize aggression, introduce them simultaneously and ensure a plentiful supply of algae for grazing.
As herbivores, **Chocolate Tangs** spend much of their time grazing on algae. They thrive on a diet of green foods like nori and marine algae sheets, high-quality flake and pellet foods, as well as frozen foods like mysis and brine shrimp.
