Bristletooth Tomini Tang - Ctenochaetus tominiensis
The Bristletooth Tomini Tang is a vibrant and distinctive surgeonfish. It features a predominantly gray body accented with vivid orange fins and a white tail, earning it the nickname Flame Fin Tang. These fish grow up to 6 inches and thrive in tanks of at least 55 gallons. They prefer ample swimming space, making longer tanks ideal. Generally peaceful with other fish, corals, and invertebrates, they are excellent for reef aquariums. However, they may show aggression towards other tangs, especially within the Ctenochaetus family. To minimize aggression, introduce all tangs simultaneously and ensure a steady supply of algae for grazing.
Bristletooth Tomini Tangs are exceptional algae eaters, spending their days picking at live rock. They are relatively hardy compared to other tangs, but quarantining them before adding to the main tank is advisable. As herbivores, they require a diet rich in greens, including nori, algae sheets, spirulina, and high-quality flake and pellet foods, along with mysis shrimp. Adding supplements like Selcon and garlic can boost their immune system.
