Bariene Tang - Acanthurus bariene
The Bariene Tang is a visually striking and sizable surgeonfish. These fish exhibit a predominantly tan to blue body with prominent yellow markings and highlights on their fins. They can grow up to 20 inches and require a minimum tank size of 200 gallons. Known for their semi-aggressive nature, Bariene Tangs generally coexist peacefully with other fish, corals, and invertebrates, making them suitable for larger reef aquariums. However, they may show aggression towards other tangs, particularly those of the Acanthurus genus. To minimize conflicts, introduce all tangs simultaneously and ensure a steady supply of algae for grazing.
These tangs are powerful swimmers, often found in reef surge zones, indicating a preference for turbulent waters and ample swimming space. Longer tanks are ideal for them. Providing plenty of established live rock will offer abundant algae for grazing between feedings.
As herbivores, Bariene Tangs thrive on a diet rich in plant-based foods. Offer them nori, marine algae sheets, high-quality flake and pellet foods, spirulina, and premium frozen foods like mysis and brine shrimp to maintain their health and happiness.
