Atlantic Blue Tang - Acanthurus coeruleus
The Atlantic Blue Tang is a captivating blue surgeonfish native to the Caribbean. As juveniles, they display a vibrant yellow body with blue accents on their fins. As they mature, their body gradually turns blue, with the tail being the last to change from yellow to blue.
These fish can grow up to 15 inches and require a minimum tank size of 125 gallons. The Atlantic Blue Tang is an active swimmer and thrives in longer aquariums. They are generally peaceful with non-tang species but can be aggressive towards other tangs, especially those in the Acanthurus family. To minimize aggression, ensure a larger tank if housing multiple tangs. They are completely reef-safe.
Prone to marine ich, it's crucial to quarantine the Atlantic Blue Tang before introducing it to your tank. Aside from ich, they are relatively hardy.
As herbivores, they require a diet rich in greens. Foods like nori, marine algae sheets, spirulina, high-quality pellets, flake foods, and mysis shrimp are ideal. Supplements like Selcon can enhance their health.
