Achilles Tang Hybrid - Acanthurus glaucopareius
The Achilles Tang Hybrid is an exceptionally rare variant of the already uncommon Achilles Tang. This unique fish is a crossbreed between the Achilles Tang and Goldrim Tang, found exclusively in Hawaiian waters. It features a dark brownish-black body accented with yellow highlights and an orange tail.
These hybrids can grow up to 9 inches and require a minimum tank size of 80 gallons. Known for their strong swimming abilities, they thrive in long tanks with ample swimming space. Generally peaceful, they coexist well with other fish and do not disturb coral or invertebrates, making them ideal for reef aquariums.
While Achilles Tang Hybrids are generally peaceful, they can show aggression towards other tangs, particularly those in the Acanthurus genus. To minimize conflicts, house them in the largest tank possible and introduce them simultaneously. Ensure a constant supply of algae, either through algae sheets or established live rock, for grazing.
These hybrids are prone to marine ich, so quarantine them before adding to your main tank. As herbivores, they need a diet rich in greens. Offer foods like nori, marine algae sheets, high-quality flakes, and pellets, along with mysis and brine shrimp. Supplements like Selcon and garlic can enhance their health.
