Banded Houndshark - Triakis scyllium
Japanese Leopard Shark
The **Banded Houndshark** is a compact shark species suitable for larger home aquariums. It features a long, muscular body with brown and tan hues. As they age, their distinctive saddles and spots tend to fade. Like many sharks, their underside is white.
These sharks can grow up to 57 inches and require a minimum tank size of 750 gallons. Larger tanks are preferable. While they can be housed in reef aquariums, they may consume smaller fish and invertebrates. In their natural habitat, their diet mainly consists of invertebrates such as shrimp, worms, and crabs.
**Banded Houndsharks** should be kept in tanks without sharp corners to prevent injury. A soft, thick sand bed is essential to avoid skin scratches and potential infections.
Only highly experienced aquarists should attempt to keep **Banded Houndsharks**. Prior experience with other shark species is recommended.
