Banded Pipefish - Doriorhamphus dactyliophorus
The Banded Pipefish is a visually striking and graceful species, characterized by its predominantly red body adorned with bold white vertical stripes. These pipefish can reach up to 7 inches in length and require a minimum tank size of 40 gallons. Known for their peaceful nature, they thrive best with other non-aggressive species such as seahorses and other pipefish.
Due to their non-aggressive feeding habits, Banded Pipefish are vulnerable to more aggressive tank mates and can be harmed by anemones and certain invertebrates. While they can be kept in reef tanks, caution is advised. These fish are challenging to maintain, as they require a diet rich in live foods, primarily live copepods. Occasionally, they may adapt to eating prepared foods like mysis shrimp or baby brine shrimp, but this should not be expected.
