The Zebra Flounder is a distinctive and seldom-seen fish in home aquariums. These flounders display a predominantly tan to brown body adorned with bold white stripes. Like other flounders, the Zebra Flounder features a flat body.
Reaching up to 6 inches in length, Zebra Flounders require a minimum tank size of 75 gallons. Known for their aggressive nature, they may target smaller fish or invertebrates that venture too close, making them unsuitable for reef tanks.
These flounders thrive in tanks with a deep sand bed, allowing them to burrow. A coarse substrate can scratch their belly, leading to infections. Zebra Flounders often bury themselves in the sand, leaving only their eyes visible as they await prey. Without a proper sand bed, they may become stressed and fall ill. Due to their challenging care requirements, only experienced aquarists should attempt to keep this species.
As carnivores, Zebra Flounders need a diet rich in meaty foods. Offer them mysis and brine shrimp, high-quality frozen foods, and small pieces of fresh seafood to ensure their health and happiness.
