Coral Banded Shrimp - Stenopus hispidus
The Coral Banded Shrimp is a captivating addition to any reef aquarium, known for its striking red and white bands and long white antennae. This shrimp species can grow up to 2 inches and thrives in tanks of at least 29 gallons. Generally peaceful, the Coral Banded Shrimp coexists well with most fish, invertebrates, and corals, but should not be housed with other Coral Banded Shrimp due to territorial tendencies. They may also show aggression towards other shrimp species.
These shrimp are fascinating to observe, often raising their pincers like a boxer. As excellent scavengers, they contribute significantly to the tank's cleanup crew, actively searching for leftover food, especially at night. The Coral Banded Shrimp is a carnivore, requiring a diet rich in meaty foods. If natural food sources are insufficient, supplement with high-quality flake or frozen foods.
