Aussie Fluffy Toadstool Leather Coral-Sarcophyton sp

RARE CORAL!!!

The Aussie Fluffy Toadstool (Sarcophyton sp.) is a popular variety of leather coral prized for its exceptionally long, flowing polyps that give it a "fluffy" appearance. Often originating from the Great Barrier Reef, these corals are known for their resilience and distinctive mushroom-like shape.

Care Requirements

These corals are generally considered easy to care for and are ideal for beginners due to their adaptability.
Care Requirements
Lighting: Prefers moderate to high lighting (approx. 150–250 PAR) to maintain vibrant colors and encourage polyp extension.
  • Water Flow: Requires moderate to strong, chaotic flow. This is essential to help the coral shed its periodic waxy mucus layer, which prevents algae buildup.
  • Water Parameters:Supplements: Benefits from additions of iodine, which aids in the healthy shedding process and overall growth
    • Temperature: 74–80°F.
    • Salinity: 1.024–1.026.
    • Alkalinity: 8–12 dKH.
      Unique Characteristics & Behavior
      • Shedding: It is normal for this coral to periodically retract its polyps and develop a "waxy" film for several days. This is a self-cleaning mechanism to remove detritus.
      • Chemical Warfare: Sarcophyton species can release terpenoid toxins (allelopathy) to compete for space. Using activated carbon in your filtration can help neutralize these toxins in a mixed reef.
      • Symbiosis: They are photosynthetic but will benefit from supplemental feedings of phytoplankton or fine coral foods. Some clownfish may even use the long polyps as a substitute for an anemone.

SIZE IS 3-4 INCH ACROSS
