The Manybar Goatfish is a vibrant and eye-catching species of goatfish. This fish features a predominantly red body adorned with black spots towards the back and a white underbelly. Equipped with long barbels extending from their mouths, Manybar Goatfish use these to sift through sand in search of invertebrates to consume.
Reaching up to 14 inches in length, Manybar Goatfish require a minimum tank size of 240 gallons. They are peaceful and generally coexist well with other fish and coral. However, they may consume smaller invertebrates, so caution is advised when adding them to a reef tank.
These fish thrive in larger aquariums with a deep sand bed, which allows them to forage for invertebrates. By sifting through the sand, Manybar Goatfish help keep it clean and oxygenated. They also benefit from ample live rock, providing hiding spots from more aggressive tank mates.
As carnivores, Manybar Goatfish require a diet rich in meaty foods. Juveniles thrive on mysis and brine shrimp, along with high-quality frozen foods. As they grow, their diet should include larger pieces of fresh seafood.
