Australian Sea Apple - Pseudocolochirus violaceus
The Sea Apple is a captivating and distinctive marine invertebrate. Typically, these creatures display vibrant blue or purple hues with striking red feeding tentacles. They can grow up to 8 inches and require a minimum tank size of 25 gallons. Known for their peaceful nature, Sea Apples coexist harmoniously with other fish, corals, and invertebrates in reef aquariums. However, they should not be housed with aggressive fish like angelfish and triggers that may disturb them.
Ample live rock is essential in the tank for Sea Apples, as they often roam until they find an ideal feeding spot. They feed by extending their tentacles to filter food from the water. If the water lacks sufficient food, supplementing with micro-plankton is recommended. It's crucial to note that Sea Apples are toxic upon death, posing a risk to other tank inhabitants. To prevent accidents, ensure they cannot access overflows, powerheads, or pumps. A larger total water volume in your system reduces the risk of catastrophic events if a Sea Apple dies.
