Astraea Snail - Lithopoma tectum
The Astraea Snail is an essential addition to your aquarium. These snails feature a cone-shaped shell that often becomes encrusted with coralline algae. They grow to just over an inch and thrive in tanks of at least 10 gallons. Known for their peaceful nature, Astraea Snails coexist harmoniously with fish, invertebrates, and corals, making them ideal for reef tanks.
These snails prefer tanks with abundant live rock for daytime hiding. Primarily nocturnal, Astraea Snails are most active at night, feeding on algae from live rock and glass. They also consume diatoms and cyanobacteria. As herbivores, they require a diet rich in greens, primarily sourced from tank algae. Supplement their diet with nori, marine algae sheets, or high-quality flake and pellet foods. Astraea Snails are a valuable part of any tank's cleanup crew.
