Common name – Beau-Gregory Damsel
Scientific name – Stegastes leucostictus
Size – 1" – 2"
Temperament – Peaceful community fish; very aggressive only to each other. Will kill one of its kind
Aquarium Setup – Reef tank; coral, algae, etc.
Swimming Habits – No special swimming level
Food and Diet: Just like other Damsels, it is recommended that you feed the fish several small feedings rather than one or two large feedings. They feed upon zooplankton as well in the wild.
Damselfishes are generally thought of as being the best first fishes for a new saltwater hobbyist. They are colorful, active, feed readily, and are very hardy. In fact they are so hardy, that they are often used to "break in" a new tank, creating and then surviving the first waves of toxic ammonia.
Since damselfish are a bit territorial, a good rule is to keep only one damselfish per tank, OR a group of four or more to spread the aggression.
The exceptions are the Chromis species, which should always be kept in schools
