Known as Commersons Frogfish or the Spotted Black Angler, this species has a wide range of coloration and patterns. Most of the body is black and is speckled with bright gold or red spots. Over time, the Black Angler can change the shades of its colors to help blend in with its surroundings.
Frogfish are ambush predators, capable of swallowing other fish of almost the same length. They spend most their time in one place waiting for food to come by. Though the Black Angler lives a sedentary lifestyle, its bite is one of the fastest movements in the animal kingdom.
These fish do best in a species only tank, but can be kept with larger fish which should be twice the length of the angler. Do not house with any angelfish, as they may pick the frogfish to death.
The diet of the Frogfish should consist of true saltwater feeder fish, shrimp, and other motile invertebrates.
